FAQ
-
Can one 36V lithium battery replace three 12V trolling motor batteries?
Yes. A suitable ABYSS® 36V battery can replace three 12V lead-acid or AGM batteries connected in series for a compatible 36V trolling motor. Confirm capacity, current requirements, dimensions, wiring, and charger compatibility before making the change.
-
Which 36V battery capacity should I choose?
Start with your motor’s current draw, fishing time, and available battery space. ABYSS offers 60Ah, 75Ah, and 105Ah options. Higher capacity provides more energy at the same voltage, but actual runtime depends on motor use, conditions, and load. An ABYSS battery specialist can help you compare.
-
Can I keep my existing battery charger?
Only if its output voltage, lithium charging profile, charging current, and required wake-up capability meet the selected battery’s requirements. Confirm compatibility with ABYSS before reusing a charger designed for a different battery bank.
-
Can I monitor my battery from my phone?
The standard ABYSS® 36V 60Ah, 75Ah, and 105Ah models support Bluetooth monitoring with compatible Apple® and Android™ devices. The SEAL™ 36V 105Ah uses its included CRYSTAL™ X3 monitor to connect with the Abyss App. Connect within Bluetooth range to view battery information.
-
How do I choose between a standard ABYSS® 36V battery and the SEAL™ 36V 105Ah?
Start with capacity, space, and the system features you need. Standard ABYSS® 36V models provide direct Bluetooth battery monitoring. SEAL™ adds built-in thermal aerosol fire suppression and uses the CRYSTAL™ X3 monitor within the INFINITE™ system, with dedicated power and communication connections. Compare charger requirements, cable kits, and the complete installation rather than choosing on amp-hours alone.
-
Will a 105Ah battery guarantee all-day trolling motor runtime?
No fixed runtime applies to every boat. A larger amp-hour rating stores more energy at the same voltage, but sustained high thrust, wind, current, and a heavily loaded hull can use it faster. Estimate your average current draw and hours of motor use, allow a reserve, and choose capacity around the most demanding days you expect to fish.
-
Can I add a second 36V battery later for more capacity?
Expansion depends on the exact battery model. Some standard ABYSS® 36V batteries permit specified parallel configurations, while the SEAL™ FN4 user guide prohibits both series and parallel connections. Do not connect batteries together solely because their voltage matches. Confirm the permitted arrangement, matching requirements, charging plan, and circuit protection before adding a second pack.
-
Can my installer keep the wiring from my old three-battery bank?
Some components may remain suitable, but the installer should review the entire motor circuit. Check cable size for length and current, breaker voltage and current ratings, connector capacity, terminal condition, and battery mounting. Replacing three series-connected 12V batteries with one 36V battery changes the battery-side layout and requires the correct charger connection.
