FAQ

  • Is this 36V 105Ah battery compatible with my trolling motor?

It is designed for compatible 36V trolling motors and has a nominal voltage of 38.4V. Check your exact motor model, its accepted battery voltage and current requirements. The battery's published continuous-discharge rating is 100A; your dealer or installer should also confirm the motor settings, wiring and circuit protection for the complete installation.

  • Can one 36V 105Ah battery replace three 12V batteries?

Yes. One ABYSS® 36V 105Ah battery can replace three 12V lead-acid or AGM batteries connected in series for a compatible 36V trolling motor. Have the installer review the charger, cable routing and battery mounting. Identify any 12V accessories supplied from the old bank so their power supply can be addressed during the conversion.

  • How much trolling time can I expect from 105Ah?

Divide 105Ah by average battery current to make an initial runtime estimate. At an average 20A draw, the theoretical result is 5.25 hours before allowing for reserve, usable capacity and operating conditions. Wind, current, speed and boat load change actual runtime. The 105Ah capacity provides 40% more nominal capacity than the 36V 75Ah, with a larger Group 4D footprint and additional installed weight.

  • Which charger should I use, and can I keep my existing charger?

Use an ABYSS-approved 36V lithium charger with the correct charge profile, current rating and pulse wake-up capability. An existing charger is suitable only if it meets this battery's charging requirements. A charger arranged for three separate 12V batteries should not be assumed compatible with one 36V battery; have its model and settings checked before reuse.

  • Can I recharge the battery from my engine while underway?

Yes, through compatible DC-DC charging equipment. The ABYSS® 36V High Output DC-DC Alternator Charger is optimized for the 36V 75Ah and 105Ah trolling batteries. Have your installer match the charger to the engine's available alternator output, starting battery and wiring. Energy recovered depends on running time and charging conditions, so plan shore charging around actual use.

  • Can I monitor this battery from my phone or helm display?

The 36V 105Ah Bluetooth model supports monitoring through the ABYSS Battery app on a compatible Apple or Android phone within Bluetooth range. You can check charge status and operating information such as voltage, current and temperature. If your installation calls for a helm display, ask ABYSS to confirm a supported integration before specifying network equipment.

  • How much space do I need, and how should the battery be mounted?

The Group 4D battery measures 20.67 × 9.45 × 8.66 inches and weighs approximately 65.85 lb. Measure the actual compartment and allow clearance for cables, terminal protection and service access. Secure the battery with mounting hardware appropriate to the boat and follow the current installation instructions. Confirm the mounting hardware and charging accessories needed for your installation when placing the order.

  • What should my dealer, installer or boat builder check before handover?

Confirm the motor's 36V configuration, expected current draw, secure mounting, cable sizing, circuit protection and terminal torque specified for the hardware. Verify the charger settings, charging operation and Bluetooth connection, then check the motor under load. Record the wiring plan, battery serial number and commissioning results, and give the owner the manuals, app demonstration and registration instructions.

  • How should I store and care for the battery between trips?

For extended storage, isolate connected loads as directed in the battery manual and keep the battery in a dry, protected location. Follow the current model instructions for storage charge level, temperature limits and periodic checks. Before returning to service, inspect the case, mounting and terminals, then verify charge status and normal operation. Keep connections clean and secure.

  • What warranty applies, and how do I register my battery?

Purchases from August 1, 2026 qualify for 10-year defect coverage with required registration. Earlier purchases retain their original terms. Register within 90 days with proof of purchase and the battery serial number through the ABYSS website or app. Keep those details available for support and review the current warranty policy for full terms.

Certifications and Safety Testing

As an industry leader, we aim to be the standard for lithium iron phosphate batteries that withstand the most demanding environments. Each battery is engineered to meet and exceed criteria set by The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) for optimal safety and performance.

  • Passed UN/DOT 38.3: LITHIUM
BATTERY TRANSPORTATION

All Abyss Battery®, Inc. Lithium Batteries are required to pass section 38.3 of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, to ensure the safety of using products for our end users and for shipping purposes. We are proud of our investment to ensure our products have been UN38.3 certified.

    T1 – Altitude Simulation:
This is low pressure testing that simulates unpressurized airplane space (cargo area) at 15,000 meter altitude. After storing batteries at 11.6kPa for >6 hours, these criteria shall be met: no mass loss, leaking, venting, disassembly, rupture or fire, and voltage within 10% of pre-test voltage.

T2 – Thermal Test: This test covers changes in temperature extremes from -40°C to +75°C. Batteries are stored for 6 hours at -40°C (12 hours for large cells/batteries), then 6 hours at +75°C (12 hours for large cells/batteries), for a total of 10 cycles. Testing may be performed in a single chamber or thermal shock chamber, but less than 30-minute transitions shall be used.

T3 – Vibration: This test simulates vibration during transportation. Test is a Sine Sweep: 7Hz – 200Hz – 7Hz in 15 Minutes; 12 Sweeps (3 hours); 3 mutually perpendicular axes.

T4 – Shock: This test also simulates vibration during transportation. Test is a Half-Sine pulse: 150G/6ms for small cells/batteries; 50G/11ms for large cells/batteries; 3 pulses per direction; 6 directions (+/-z, +/-x, +/-y). Same pass criteria as T1.

T5 – External Short Circuit: This test simulates an external short to the terminals of the cell or battery. At temperature of +55°C, apply short circuit (<0.1ohm) across terminals. Maintain at least an hour after sample temperature returns to +55 +/-2°C. Pass criteria are: Case temperature does not exceed +170°C and no disassembly, rupture, or fire within 6 hours of test. Fuse, current limiting circuit, and venting mechanism activation are allowable.

T6 – Impact: This test is only applicable to primary and secondary cells. For cylindrical cells >20mm diameter, it simulates impact to case of cell. For cylindrical cells <20mm diameter and all other cell constructions, it simulates crushing of a cell. Pass criteria for any type is: Case temperature does not exceed +170°C & no disassembly or fire within 6 hours of test.

T7 – Overcharge: This test is for secondary or rechargeable batteries only. It simulates an overcharge condition on a rechargeable battery: 2x the manufacturer’s recommended charge current for 24 hours. Then battery shall be monitored for 7 days for fire or disassembly.

T8 – Forced Discharge: This testing simulates a forced discharge condition for primary and secondary cells only.

  • Passed UL 1642

The individual lithium cells inside every Abyss battery are tested against fire and explosion under abuse (short circuits, crushing, overcharging, and extreme heat) so the foundation of the battery is proven safe before it's ever built into a pack.

Amazing!!

Made the change from 3 group 31 12v flooded cell batteries to a single 36v 105 ah Abyss! First time out we fished for 6 hours with the Minn Kota on spot lock the entire time and constantly keeping my SeaFox 256 Commander locked in. With my lead acid batteries, they required recharging. When I checked my Abyss, it was still at 96%!!!
Will never use conventional batteries again!!

Best lithiums in the game

I’m a guide and run two different boats for my trips. Both of my boats run the 36 volt abyss’s. One with the 60AH and one with the 105 AH. I will never look back or seek out a different battery. These things have been flawless. Trolling motors have become one of the most valuable fishing tools and it’s nice to know mine will always have more than enough battery power to get me through the long days of fishing in all conditions. Can’t recommend this product enough.

Our Lithium Battery of Choice

We have been very happy with the Abyss batteries. Our customers have been thrilled with the performance. Although rare, when we have encountered any issues, Abyss goes way above and beyond to resolve any issues quickly. As the owner of MEE Inc I chose their product for my own boat and recommend them for all out trolling motor installations.

Seemingly worth the wait

I initially order led this through West Marine, which is generally very good at efficiently delivering my special orders. After waiting a couple months for back order I contacted Abyss and they were able to ship my order expedited. But then FedEx delayed delivery by an additional day. Except for the wait, so far so great-battery has been performing great!

Abyss Lithium Project

Converting my boat from lead acid batteries to Abyss lithium batteries has proved to be a great idea. Not only have I improved my reserve capacity, the lithium batteries charge in a fraction of the time compared to lead acid batteries. I went with a 36V 105 Ah battery for my electric motor and a 12V120Ah lithium for my house battery. I’ve never enjoyed more DC power in a fishing boat!

Abyss is your must have battery

We fish tarpon and stay on our trolling motor until it runs dead. We would typically only get 3-1/2 to 4 hours on old 36 volt system and with our new Abyss single 36 volt lithium battery we got 8-1/2 hours of continuous run time in a strong current and had 30% life left. Highly recommend!!!!

105 Amp Hour on a 96" Inch Rhodan on a 30' Intrepid

Used this product for the first time last Sunday. The Rhodan is mounted on a 30' Intrepid Center Console. The day got a little rough as time went on, so much so that the 96" Rhodan actually came out of the water a few times. However, even with the rougher than normal conditions, the battery still had 58% remaining at the end of the day. We probably got to the first spot around 9:00 and wrapped the day up around 3:30 with maybe an hour in between of travel from spot to spot.

This thing is a beast! It just works, and it tells your phone how it is doing!

I bought this battery for use with a Rhodan 120 lb GPS trolling motor / spot lock for my 2022 Key West 244 CC. The battery just works like a champ. I can run it hard and it barely uses much of the capacity. I bought the big 105 AH 36 V battery so that I could go through a long day of fishing and only recharge from shore power at the end of the day using the Abyss charger. This has turned out to be a great decision. Very happy with Abyss - they actually answer the phone and help you when you call. Their stuff is built very well. If you are going to invest in Lithium for your boat, this is a solid choice. Absolutely no regrets.

36v 105 AH Lithium

I’m running the 105 AH battery on a 30’ Robalo with a 36v 96” 120# thrust Rhodan and it will run for days in wind and current.
The 60 AH battery I had before was good for an average 8 hr day but I needed more for offshore fishing in extreme conditions like 15+ mph winds, 1.5 mph currents and 3-4’ seas, I can fish it all day and still have 60% or more battery life and the Bluetooth monitoring is such a peace of mind.
