FAQ

  • Is this 24V 60Ah battery compatible with my trolling motor?

It is designed for compatible 24V trolling motors and has a nominal voltage of 25.6V. Check your exact motor model, its accepted battery voltage and current requirements. The battery's published continuous-discharge rating is 100A; your dealer or installer should also confirm the motor settings, wiring and circuit protection for the complete installation.

  • Can one 24V 60Ah battery replace two 12V batteries?

Yes. One ABYSS® 24V 60Ah battery can replace two 12V lead-acid or AGM batteries connected in series for a compatible 24V trolling motor. Have the installer review the charger, cable routing and battery mounting. Identify any 12V accessories supplied from the old bank so their power supply can be addressed during the conversion.

  • How much trolling time can I expect from 60Ah?

Divide 60Ah by average battery current to make an initial runtime estimate. At an average 20A draw, the theoretical result is 3 hours before allowing for reserve, usable capacity and operating conditions. Wind, current, speed and boat load change actual runtime. The 60Ah model prioritizes a compact Group 24 footprint; the 24V 90Ah offers 50% more nominal capacity in a larger Group 31 case.

  • Which charger should I use, and can I keep my existing charger?

Use an ABYSS-approved 24V lithium charger with the correct charge profile, current rating and pulse wake-up capability. An existing charger is suitable only if it meets this battery's charging requirements. A charger arranged for two separate 12V batteries should not be assumed compatible with one 24V battery; have its model and settings checked before reuse.

  • Can I recharge the battery from my engine while underway?

Yes, with a compatible ABYSS® 24V On-Board Alternator Charger installed between the starting system and trolling battery. It regulates charging from available engine-generated power. Your installer should check alternator capacity, starting-battery requirements, wiring and protection. Charging gained depends on engine running time and conditions; use AC charging as needed to begin the next trip with sufficient reserve.

  • Can I monitor this battery from my phone or helm display?

The 24V 60Ah Bluetooth model supports ABYSS Battery app monitoring on a compatible Apple or Android phone within Bluetooth range, including charge status, voltage, current and temperature. For NMEA 2000 battery readings at the helm, consider the separate 24V 110Ah NMEA 2000 model and confirm the display's supported data, network and connection requirements before ordering.

  • How much space do I need, and how should the battery be mounted?

The Group 24 battery measures 10.24 × 6.62 × 8.23 inches and weighs approximately 24.89 lb. Measure the actual compartment and allow clearance for cables, terminal protection and service access. Secure the battery with mounting hardware appropriate to the boat and follow the current installation instructions. Confirm the mounting hardware and charging accessories needed for your installation when placing the order.

  • What should my dealer, installer or boat builder check before handover?

Confirm the motor's 24V configuration, expected current draw, secure mounting, cable sizing, circuit protection and terminal torque specified for the hardware. Verify the charger settings, charging operation and Bluetooth connection, then check the motor under load. Record the wiring plan, battery serial number and commissioning results, and give the owner the manuals, app demonstration and registration instructions.

  • How should I store and care for the battery between trips?

For extended storage, isolate connected loads as directed in the battery manual and keep the battery in a dry, protected location. Follow the current model instructions for storage charge level, temperature limits and periodic checks. Before returning to service, inspect the case, mounting and terminals, then verify charge status and normal operation. Keep connections clean and secure.

  • What warranty applies, and how do I register my battery?

Purchases from August 1, 2026 qualify for 10-year defect coverage with required registration. Earlier purchases retain their original terms. Register within 90 days with proof of purchase and the battery serial number through the ABYSS website or app. Keep those details available for support and review the current warranty policy for full terms.

Certifications and Safety Testing

As an industry leader, we aim to be the standard for lithium iron phosphate batteries that withstand the most demanding environments. Each battery is engineered to meet and exceed criteria set by The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) for optimal safety and performance.

  • Passed UN/DOT 38.3: LITHIUM
BATTERY TRANSPORTATION

All Abyss Battery®, Inc. Lithium Batteries are required to pass section 38.3 of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, to ensure the safety of using products for our end users and for shipping purposes. We are proud of our investment to ensure our products have been UN38.3 certified.

    T1 – Altitude Simulation:
This is low pressure testing that simulates unpressurized airplane space (cargo area) at 15,000 meter altitude. After storing batteries at 11.6kPa for >6 hours, these criteria shall be met: no mass loss, leaking, venting, disassembly, rupture or fire, and voltage within 10% of pre-test voltage.

T2 – Thermal Test: This test covers changes in temperature extremes from -40°C to +75°C. Batteries are stored for 6 hours at -40°C (12 hours for large cells/batteries), then 6 hours at +75°C (12 hours for large cells/batteries), for a total of 10 cycles. Testing may be performed in a single chamber or thermal shock chamber, but less than 30-minute transitions shall be used.

T3 – Vibration: This test simulates vibration during transportation. Test is a Sine Sweep: 7Hz – 200Hz – 7Hz in 15 Minutes; 12 Sweeps (3 hours); 3 mutually perpendicular axes.

T4 – Shock: This test also simulates vibration during transportation. Test is a Half-Sine pulse: 150G/6ms for small cells/batteries; 50G/11ms for large cells/batteries; 3 pulses per direction; 6 directions (+/-z, +/-x, +/-y). Same pass criteria as T1.

T5 – External Short Circuit: This test simulates an external short to the terminals of the cell or battery. At temperature of +55°C, apply short circuit (<0.1ohm) across terminals. Maintain at least an hour after sample temperature returns to +55 +/-2°C. Pass criteria are: Case temperature does not exceed +170°C and no disassembly, rupture, or fire within 6 hours of test. Fuse, current limiting circuit, and venting mechanism activation are allowable.

T6 – Impact: This test is only applicable to primary and secondary cells. For cylindrical cells >20mm diameter, it simulates impact to case of cell. For cylindrical cells <20mm diameter and all other cell constructions, it simulates crushing of a cell. Pass criteria for any type is: Case temperature does not exceed +170°C & no disassembly or fire within 6 hours of test.

T7 – Overcharge: This test is for secondary or rechargeable batteries only. It simulates an overcharge condition on a rechargeable battery: 2x the manufacturer’s recommended charge current for 24 hours. Then battery shall be monitored for 7 days for fire or disassembly.

T8 – Forced Discharge: This testing simulates a forced discharge condition for primary and secondary cells only.

  • Passed UL 1642

The individual lithium cells inside every Abyss battery are tested against fire and explosion under abuse (short circuits, crushing, overcharging, and extreme heat) so the foundation of the battery is proven safe before it's ever built into a pack.

Abyss 24 V Trolling Motor Battery

Ordered this on Monday a week ago at 4 pm and it arrived by 4 the next day. Bought this battery because I had shipped another Brand of Lithium 24V battery back after 3 years of service and had not heard anything from that company. No problems so far. Use it on a 185 VS Ranger Bass Boat with an Ultrex Trolling Motor. Now have used the 24V 3 or 4 days a week. Battery charges in about 20 minutes. 3 hours of fishing and battery has 94-95% of charge left.

Dont bother buying a battery from anyone else...

This is the second boat I have rigged with Abyss battery, the batteries are amazing. But what really seals the deal for me is that I can always dial a number and actually talk to a live person on the other end. Highly recommend!!!!

Excellent Value and Dependability

We bought this 24V battery to replace a well worn double 12V in parallel system that works as a semi-professional guide boat. We absolutely depend on it working every time and that’s just what it does. I worry about many things during a guided charter but my trolling motor battery is no longer one of them.

I don’t need an extension cord

I have ben using the 24 volt 60ah for my trolling motor, hooked up to power pole charge. Using the boat for the last 3 weeks guiding, I haven’t been able to drop the volts below 24!!! I constantly check the app, both abyss and power pole to see the volts and Ah, always in disbelief because I can’t drain this battery. Best part when I drive home the battery is charged and ready for tomorrow!!
